Slice of Life: Nail Polish - a token of his affection

There are a kajillion, billion, trillion, million times infinity why I love my man. He constantly strives to make me happy and is always there for me. Today, another example of his sweetness occurred.

We went to Wally World to grab our nephew's birthday present. As we were walking towards the toys, we passed the shimmering wall of Essie nail polish.

Confession: I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Essie! I think it may border an obsession. I have so many and always have to resist buying new colors. I also love having my nails freshly painted because it makes me feel a little more put together. It makes me feel like I have a handle on my life. And, it makes me feel pretty :)

I stopped to peek at the delicious rows of polish, each a sprinkle aching to be part of my nail polish sunday. One dazzling color popped out: Mint Candy Apple. For weeks I have been wanting this color, even though I had Turquoise and Caicos (a darker version), but I never purchased it. We are trying to save money so we can eat, have a comfortable home for our baby, pay for the upcoming medical bills, blah blah blah. The normal "adult" things.  I paused and drooled, murmuring that I loved that color and had been wanting it for ages.  Then, I snapped out of it and returned to my mission of Nephew's Birthday Gift. But, out of the corner of my eye I saw Mason sneak the bottle into his hand.

I had had a fairly rough day (sore and achy all over, homesick, stressed about homework, etc) and Mason knew that this small little treat would help make my day a little happier.

I can't wait to paint my nails tomorrow! :)

Slice of Life 2: Because Today is Just That Special...

Guess what I woke up to?? A delightful email from Target telling me that I had ordered:

  • An ear thermometer
  • Individual wrapped beige toothbrushes (144 count)
  • A four pack Orabrush Tongue cleaner
  • AND a $100 gift card meant to be emailed to someone.
Wanna hear the best part? I didn't order any of that. Call me crazy but one toothbrush is enough for me. And, the total was $169!

Oh what a beautiful mooooooooooooorning.... (sung drenched with sarcasm!)

Slice of Life: Best Sound in the World

Today, I heard the most glorious sound. A lawnmower!

To me, that sound is a heavenly chorus, announcing the upcoming delicious days of shorts, languid poolside laying, wienie roasts, chasing fireflies, gardening (SHH! Don't tell my mom - she'll say "I told you so!" :) ), walking barefoot in squishy grass, basking in the sun while my dad drives the boat like a maniac across waves, and early morning bike rides.

It is also the sound that beckons me to come back to Oklahoma. Someday, dear Okie-ville, someday!

Slice of Life: Mehhhh

Do you ever have days where you are just feeling a little "meh?"  I am having one of those days and it's driving me crazy! I have been so tired today so that contributes to my meh-ness a lot, but I am still annoyed. I taught a 7th grade English class this morning and I think it bombed. Not like it was "the bomb" but genuinely bombed, tanked, crashed and burned. Then, I came home and instead of getting some homework done I watched Malcolm in the Middle until my doctor's appointment. Now, I just woke up from a three hour nap, I feel hungover, and I am avoiding homework.  The only problem when I avoid homework is that I get bummed out about doing anything - nothing sounds good to do because I know I should be doing my homework.  So I keep thinking, "Hmmm, maybe I'll perk up after looking at pinterest for a few minutes...That didn't work? Weird. How about my blogs I follow? Still meh." This goes on and on. I am so bogged down with the thought that I should be doing homework that I can't even motivate myself to do productive things around the house. So I just sit and stare and wish my homework would magically disappear...

Okay, that's enough of that. It's time for me to do homework! I honestly think I will get out of my meh mood once I do it and I would LOVE to not feel meh! It's kind of boring and stressful.

In other news, I am going to be a mommy in 10 weeks! Whaaaaaaaaaa? Where has the time gone?

Slice of Life: Sew Fabulous

I have awesome parents-in-law!! For my birthday they got me a beautiful new sewing machine. Droooooool! Since getting it I keep getting more and more ideas of things I want to sew. I need to make a list of them, though, so I don't forget.

1. Finish my blue polka dot maxi skirt
2. Sew a pillow for my couch
3. Emy's blessing dress
I am so going to make this for my baby girls' blessing dresses (no I'm not pregnant) http://kojo-designs.com/2011/01/kojotutorial-winter-wonderland-baby-couture/
4. Turning an old sheet into curtains for the bedroom
5. Cutting down and sewing the edges of our king sized blanket
6. Figure something out with my duvet cover (It's too big for our duvet so I just have it laying on top of the bed.  It's not too bad but it's still a little big and baggy looking.)

I feel like I'm forgetting some of the things I want to do... Oh well, I think I have a pretty good list so far!

Slice of Life: Nesting

(This was from saturday...)

Today I worked like a banshee. Perhaps a little too much... BUT I got soooo much done and that feels delightful! When Mason came home and saw what I had done he was like, "Um, are you nesting?" I said "No! That's ridiculous.  I was just working around the house." Then the next day I was telling my sister in law a portion of the things I did and she exclaimed, "Wow! You are TOTALLY nesting." Huh, I guess I was/am. Whether I was nesting or just being productive, though, it was a great day.  Here are some of the things I did:

1. Read (I haven't read for enjoyment in ages!)
2. Assembled Emy's crib
3. Moved a TON of stuff into our storage closet AND organised our storage closet
4. Swept my bathroom and kitchen floors (How is it that I am STILL finding dog kibble when I sweep my kitchen...we don't own a dog...)
5. Scrubbed my kitchen and bathroom floor (hands and knees style)
6. Moved my shoe trunk across the room
7. Changed my sheets
8. Folded and put away a bazillion items of clothing
9. Cleaned the potty
10. Had a bag filled with Mason's power drill and saw fall on my head
11. Rearranged my kitchen table
12. Had friends over that night
13.  Cleaned my kitchen
14. Did dishes (But, they are still in the dishwasher waiting to be put away...SHH!)

I didn't even get everything I wanted to done! I did, however, pull a muscle on my stomach somehow and messed up my back again. My back got all pinched up so bad that I couldn't move that night. Not good.  And definitely not good for a pregnant lady.  But, don't ya worry - Emy has been moving around MORE these last few days so I am taking that as a good sign.
